Modern Survey Methods for Overhead Transmission Lines

Introduction:

The need for new Transmission lines is continuous as the demand is ever increasing to evacuate enhanced power generation to the load centers across the country. In order to optimize the cost of transmission line, the transmission line survey is critical, where considerable saving in cost of project can be achieved. Transmission line survey is very essential as many projects had to be abandoned due to wrong routing and due to issues that could be avoided like lines entering forests, snow areas etc.

The cost of transmission line would be reduced if at survey stage the river crossings or swamps that require piling or expensive foundations can be avoided during the selection of route.

At the survey stage usually the execution of the plan commences and therefore the survey is a critical stage of power transmission line construction. Most of the transmission line surveyors learn job skills on the site and follow out dated practices. The errors during survey stage can be avoided through proper audit and corrective measures before profiling. Conventional transmission line survey has undergone lot of changes since the introduction of modern tools like DGPS and optimum tower spotting software.

In order to familiarize the professionals with the new techniques of survey, SOFTNITRO is organizing a training program on “Modern Survey Methods for Overhead Transmission Lines”
