Transmission line survey is very essential as many projects had to be abandoned due to wrong routing and due to issues that could be avoided like lines entering forests, snow areas etc.

The cost of transmission line would be reduced if at survey stage the river crossings or swamps that require piling or expensive foundations can be avoided during the selection of route.

At the survey stage usually the execution of the plan commences and therefore the survey is a critical stage of power transmission line construction.
